New Art Club is the name for the work of Pete Shenton and Tom Roden. They began working together in 1995. They create choreographic, theatrical and time based works which have movement at their core, and it writes and performs stand-up comedy. Their collaboration began with a shared sense of humour and a shared desire to use choreography and dance theatre to explore philosophical ideas. To make dance that engages with the outside world as well as expressing something about their interest in the machinations of choreography.
Their work has toured extensively in Europe and America and has received critical and popular acclaim.

In February (24 and 25) 2007 in Macedonian Opera and Ballet – Small Stage, our audience will have opportunity to see one of their latest productions: This is MODERN - a full length (70 minutes) comedy dance theatre show which tells the 100 year history of 20th Century dance.

From Isadora Duncan through Martha Graham, Diaghilev, Merce Cunningham and Pina Bausch to the more contemporary trends of Eurocrash and Dancing and Talking (at the same time).
It is a mock lecture demonstration which is as informative as it is hilarious. For the uninitiated to dance it is a history lesson with jokes and a kind of 'how to' of choreography. To the dance insider it is a funny and sometimes painful journey through the techniques and ideas that have shaped dancers' lives.
