This project in Macedonia is coordinated by Lokomotiva, Skopje and supported by the Embassy of the United States in Macedonia. Though this project a unique opportunity is given to young dance pedagogues and children from the county, to learn stepping not only as dance and movement but also as a tool for development of teamwork, academic achievement and cross-cultural understanding.

Until now Lokomotiva, Skopje has implemented and coordinated this project in Macedonia in 2013 and 2014.

After the successful realisation of Step Afrika! 2013, Lokomotiva got support from the Embassy of the United States in Macedonia to coordinate and implement Step Afrika! 2014.

This gave opportunity to another two mentors and four children from Macedonia to participate in the Step Afrika! 2014 workshop in Zagreb (26 April-01 May 2014), as part of the first phase of the project - transfer of knowledge.
The workshop was followed by: Albin Rufati from Tetovo, Denis Mustafa from Skopje, Marija Dimitrovska from Skopje and Boban Ruseski from Prilep (as participants, aged 16-17 years old) and two young dance pedagogy students of 3th year from the Faculty of Music Arts in Skopje, Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje: Elizabet Kolevska and Stojka Spiridonovska (as mentors).
The advantage for this year workshop in Zagreb is that the invitations for participation were extended to EU countries in order to link young people from both EU and non-EU countries where they face many similar economic, political and social issues.

The second phase - multiplication of knowledge will happen in Skopje (13-15 June 2014), in the Music and Ballet School Centre “Ilija Nikolovski – Luj”. This year's workshop in Skopje will join the participants from both years, and they all together will have chance to present their knowledge at the open class on 15 of June, after two days active training sessions.
Specific objectives that we set for this year workshop in Skopje are:

  • Empowering young Macedonian pedagogues and children by creating a possibility for exchange of knowledge and learning about different parameters of working process, offered through Step Afrika! dance project;
  • Developing knowledge about work in teams with people from different backgrounds through dance;
  • Developing curiosity for diversities, which not necessarily lead to conflict and divides people;
  • To enhance understanding of unity, resolving problems and communication skills and developing the sense for equality through dance and
  • To learn about different approach in to the teaching process and methodology through dance.
