STEP AFRIKA! - Production and transfer of knowledge through specific dance/movement approach

The main purpose of this project is regional reconciliation, building of tolerance and acceptance, encouraging academic achievement and youth empowerment through stepping and a teamwork with Step Afrika!’s dancers and stepping teachers.
The implementations of the project is realised in two phases:

  1. Transfer of knowledge

Workshop/Regional Youth Camp in Zagreb, Croatia/April 22-26, 2013
From 22nd to 26th of April, four selected participants from Macedonia (Hristina Angelovska, Veton Abdiu, Ana Markovska, Jovana Zajkova) and two mentors and young dance pedagogy students from the Faculty of Music Arts in Skopje (Elena Ristevska and Victoria Ilioska) were active participants in the five-day workshop in Zagreb.
The intensive five-day workshop trainings resulted in achieving transfer of knowledge through specific step dance/movement approach, pedagogical skills and methodology development as well as gaining skills to communicate with the people of different cultural, educational and national background. Those were the benefits from this experience, which are to be transferred to young children in the city of Prilep in Macedonia.
The selection process for the workshop in Zagreb was organised in cooperation between Lokomotiva and Music and Ballet School Centre “Ilija Nikolovski – Luj”.

  1. Multiplication of knowledge

Workshop/Cultural Center “Marko Cepenkov”-Prilep, Macedonia/July 2-5, 2013
The knowledge gained in Zagreb will be transferred to 20 young children from Prilep by young dance mentors.
The participants of the workshop in Zagreb got back in Macedonia satisfied with the new gained knowledge and methodology of work, full of inspiration and desire to share this experience with others. As follow up to the workshop in Zagreb, a workshop in Prilep will be organised in the period between 2 and 5 of July 2013. The main goal of this workshop is multiplication of the knowledge gained – or to transfer the new teaching methodology to other dance communities in the country, as well as to offer other interested participants the specific dance/movement approach offered by Step Afrika!
The workshop in Prilep in organised in cooperation between with Lokomotiva and Dance Studio Zodijak.

The project is supported by the Embassy of United States in Macedonia
