The second edition of the Pleskavica festival, a partner of the Nomad Dance Academy educational and production dance network of the Balkan region, will try to react to the Slovenian dance festival moment, where in the last four months five (international) dance festivals took place.
In view of the circumstances, the organizers of Pleskavica set itself the task creating some sort of a programme difference in view of the current contemporary dance festival production. The organizers have decided not to invite finished performances, but have invited around forty artists, theoreticians, dramaturges and producers who will create the programme of the festival, which is to take place between 9th and 19th June, on a day-to-day basis and according to a series of methodological suggestions (modules) prepared for the participants.
The programme, entitled “De-festivalization + Re-festivalization” attempts to replace finished art products with artistic procedures and reflect the concept of a festival and its possible formats. Due to the orientation of the festival a strong reference to Michael Foucault’s text  “Of Other Spaces, Heterotopias” (1967) can be made. Michel Foucault categorizes festivals as the type of heterotopia that produce above all a special refuge, breaking with the usual, everyday order of time. This time is understood positively as the time for creation, artistic exchange and reflection.
The festival is not programmed in the conventional mode, there are a few modules/methodologies offered to the participants: generique, rescore, interview, movement/dance knowledge, my first private collection, description, presentation/contextualization, dance dramaturgy workshop, whatever dance toolbox.
Proposed modules should not be perceived as binding, but rather as offering a few guidelines for the work we are looking for at the festival. The invited artists were asked to bring their own module proposals that could be implemented in the framework of the festival.
More than 40 Slovene and international artists, theoreticians and dramaturgs will participate at the festival.
